Business journalist James McLeod joins the Council of Canadian Innovators
Toronto, ON, September 10, 2020 — The Council of Canadian Innovators (CCI), a national business association representing Canada’s fastest-growing technology companies, is pleased to announce former Financial Post journalist James McLeod has joined the organization as the Manager of Content and Communications.
McLeod is an experienced storyteller who has covered Canada’s high-growth tech sector for years and brings to CCI his deep understanding of current and emerging media landscapes. McLeod’s experience and expertise will support the expansion of CCI’s digital communications practice, advance strategic outreach to key stakeholders and help our members tell more compelling stories across traditional and digital mediums.
“I’ve always respected and appreciated the way James has humanized tech reporting in Canada, showing the deeply personal side of entrepreneurship and connecting the growth of our innovation sector to our future prosperity as a country,” said Benjamin Bergen, executive director of the Council of Canadian Innovators. “We’re thrilled to have James on board to help both our organization and our growing membership base reach new audiences.”
Before joining CCI, McLeod was a technology beat writer for the Financial Post, covering market trends and business developments affecting Canadian innovation companies. He was a major contributor to the award-winning “Innovation Nation” project launched by the Financial Post. McLeod has written extensively about issues surrounding data governance, smart cities, intellectual property, and the ways that foreign technology giants shape the Canadian innovation ecosystem. Before working for the Financial Post, McLeod was a full-time politics writer for the St. John’s Telegram in Newfoundland and Labrador, where he covered a wide range of public policy issues at both the provincial and federal levels.
“Throughout my career, I’ve been drawn to writing about public policy issues, and how government decisions affect people and businesses. In the year ahead, our governments will need to make decisions which will shape the post-pandemic economy for many years. But too few Canadians here at home are aware of the successful technology companies that employ hundreds of thousands of people in good, high-paying jobs. I’m excited to join CCI and help bring better understanding of why these high-growth companies are an essential foundation for Canada’s future prosperity,” said James McLeod, content and communications manager for the Council of Canadian Innovators.
