CCI Statement on Canada’s Commitment to Building Sovereign Digital Infrastructure

Today, Prime Minister Mark Carney reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening Canada’s sovereignty in the digital age, underscoring the importance of sovereign cloud infrastructure as a critical national priority.

In response to the Prime Minister's remarks, CCI President Benjamin Bergen issued the following statement on behalf of our members:

"It’s encouraging that Prime Minister Carney sees sovereign cloud as a national imperative on a par with pipelines and ports; this is exactly what we’ve been saying since the Building Canada Act was introduced in June.

"In the same way that building the railway was an expression of national sovereignty when Canada was born, today we need to be building sovereign digital rails to ensure that we are in firm control of our data and our digital commerce.

Prime Minster Carney has made it clear that economic prosperity is one of his key priorities, and we will need to judge his success on whether the government’s procurement can help propel the growth of Canadian companies. We look forward to working with the Carney government to operationalize this national project."
