CCI Statement on Rescinding the Digital Services Tax
June 30, 2025
As the federal government continues to navigate the ongoing trade tensions with the United States, the federal government announced that it would rescind the Digital Services Tax as of today. In response to this announcement CCI President Benjamin Bergen issued the following statement, on behalf of our members:
"The Council of Canadian Innovators has long supported the Digital Services Tax as a necessary tool to ensure global technology giants contribute their fair share in Canada. It was designed to level the playing field for homegrown firms operating in a rapidly evolving digital economy.
"With formal negotiations now stalled, rescinding the DST is a strategic move that we hope will help reset the path toward renewed dialogue with the United States. A stable and fair trading relationship is essential to the success of Canadian innovators and our country's long-term economic sovereignty and prosperity.
"We support the federal government’s decision to take this step in the interest of fostering a productive, long-term agreement that upholds Canada’s economic sovereignty and security."
