CCI Statement on the New Federal Cabinet

May 13, 2025

Earlier today, Prime Minister Mark Carney unveiled his new federal cabinet, marking the official start of his government’s mandate. In response to the new cabinet CCI President Benjamin Bergen issued the following statement on behalf of our members:

"During the campaign, Prime Minister Mark Carney and his team communicated that long-term economic resilience and sovereignty were the top priorities for the federal government. Economic sovereignty must be rooted in homegrown Canadian companies, and the government’s agenda must prioritize domestic capacity-building to achieve this. Canada’s technology companies are eager to work with the government to make this happen.

"Ultimately, the measure of success for Prime Minister Carney and his new cabinet will come from the policies they enact and the results they deliver for Canadians.

"We’ve heard Prime Minister Carney talk about a fresh start for this government, and today his cabinet team underscores that message. During the election campaign, 150 Canadian CEOs co-signed an open letter to all party leaders calling on them to present a strategy for secure economic prosperity.

"To move the conversation forward, CCI published A Mandate To Innovate, with dozens of concrete policy recommendations to make Canada’s economy more innovative and competitive.

"We are all eager to work together to build a brighter future for a strong and secure Canada. Innovators are ready to work with the government to deliver the policies that Canadians need to support growth, prosperity and most importantly our national sovereignty."
