CCI Statement on the Ontario Health Innovation Pathway

Today Health Minister and Deputy Premier Sylvia Jones announced that the government is now accepting applications under the Health Innovation Pathway. This program allows vendors to submit proposals for technologies that can improve efficiency and patient outcomes in the Ontario health care system. In response to the announcement, CCI Director of Ontario Affairs Skaidra Puodžiūnas issued the following statement on behalf of our members:

"Since the idea was first floated in the 2023 Ontario budget, CCI has been working with the Ontario government on moving forward with the Health Innovation Pathway. We are thrilled to see that Minister Jones announced today that the Ontario government will be accepting technology proposals to improve efficiency and enhance care in Ontario’s health care system.

"When I talk to the CEOs of Canadian health tech companies, one thing I consistently hear is that it’s far easier to sell their technologies into the USA and other foreign markets, because Canadian procurement is such a frustrating process. As the government begins to promote the Health Innovation Pathway I hope that they will give priority attention to engaging with Canadian innovators.

"Ultimately we will judge the success of this innovation pathway based on whether it lets Canadian companies get their foot in the door. Premier Doug Ford has shown that he is an enthusiastic and vocal supporter of the 'Buy Canadian' ethos. Our homegrown innovators have great tools and technologies to improve health care and reduce costs, and we hope the Health Innovation Pathway is the avenue for government to deploy those tools in the health care system."
