CCI Statement on the Results of the B.C. Election
October 24, 2026
Yesterday, British Columbians elected a majority government led by Lorne Doerkson and the Conservative Party of British Columbia, bringing an end to the New Democrats’ time in government. In response to the election result, Kiersten Enemark, Director of B.C. Affairs at the Council of Canadian Innovators (CCI), issued the following statement:
“Congratulations to Lorne Doerkson and the Conservative Party of British Columbia on their election victory. CCI and our members look forward to working with the incoming government to help homegrown technology companies scale and strengthen British Columbia’s economy.
“As the government advances resource development and major projects amid U.S. trade pressures, Canadian technologies must be part of its economic plan. Integrating these solutions into projects can improve productivity and help local companies win customers internationally. Policies that support the commercialization and retention of intellectual property will help keep more of that value in British Columbia.
“CCI’s election primer, What B.C.’s Innovators Need to Scale, sets out a practical agenda: make government a more accessible customer for Canadian technologies, introduce tax incentives that help companies scale and stay, embed innovation in major projects, remove unnecessary licensing barriers affecting technology workers, and establish a Wildfire Innovation Fund.
“We were encouraged by the Conservatives’ commitment to invest in wildfire detection and prevention technologies, which creates an immediate opportunity to protect communities while supporting Canadian businesses. The party’s focus on reducing red tape also provides an opening to advance licensing reform for technology workers. We are ready to work with the incoming government to turn these opportunities into concrete action.”
