CCI Welcomes Tailscale to Canada’s Network of Innovators

The Council of Canadian Innovators is proud to welcome Tailscale and Co-founder and CEO Avery Pennarun to our growing national network of Canadian technology companies.

Founded in Toronto in 2019, Tailscale builds secure access infrastructure for people, applications and AI agents. Its platform uses identity to connect users and systems directly to the resources they need, across clouds, data centres and physical environments, without relying on traditional network boundaries. As organizations adopt more distributed infrastructure and AI, Tailscale helps them control who and what can connect, while keeping access simple to manage.

Tailscale is used by businesses, developers and individuals around the world. Its customers range from growing technology companies to large global organizations that rely on the platform to securely connect teams and systems across multiple locations.

Under the leadership of Montréal-based Avery Pennarun, Tailscale has grown from a Canadian startup into a global technology company serving more than 40,000 businesses and millions of individual users. In 2025, the company raised US$160 million in Series C funding to accelerate product development, expand its team and support continued international growth.

“Tailscale is showing how Canadian companies can solve complex global challenges with technology that is secure, practical and easy to use,” said CCI Chief Executive Officer Patrick Searle. “Its international growth and commitment to building from Canada make it an excellent addition to CCI’s network.”

Since 2015, the Council of Canadian Innovators has supported Canada’s high-growth technology companies by working with governments to improve access to talent, capital and customers. CCI’s members are united by a commitment to growing globally competitive companies that create jobs, intellectual property and economic value here in Canada.
