CCI Response to the 2026 Alberta Budget
February 26, 2026
Today, Alberta Finance Minister Nate Horner delivered Budget 2026 against a difficult economic backdrop marked by lower resource revenues, trade uncertainty, and rising costs.
In response to today’s Budget, CCI Director of Prairie Affairs Jess Sinclair issued the following statement:
“As predicted, Finance Minister Nate Horner delivered a no-frills budget this afternoon with restrained spending mainly on core programming in Health and Education.
“Alberta should be the best place in Canada to scale an innovative company and the policy environment should enable the creation of economy better able to weather volatile resource prices and trade tensions.
“Today’s budget is devoid of big spending, but there are a few bright spots in terms of standing up the frameworks that will support the province’s innovation economy, including new money for IT service modernization, skilled talent retention specifically aimed at technology companies, and — directly responsive to CCI’s longstanding advocacy — centralization of the province’s health procurement operations.
“In order to become price-makers and masters of our own economic destiny, Alberta policymakers should continue to focus on creating the conditions that will harness prosperity in the 21st century. These aren’t cost-intensive, and they’re imperative.”
