CCI Statement on Canada’s AI Task Force
September 26, 2025
Today, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation Minister Evan Solomon announced details of a government task force on artificial intelligence. The task force will shape Canada’s approach to AI adoption, governance, and economic growth.
CCI President Benjamin Bergen, who has been named to the task force, issued the following statement in response to the announcement:
“As the federal government develops a national AI strategy, Canada faces a once-in-a-generation opportunity. Artificial intelligence is not only a set of technologies to manage; it’s also a platform to unlock growth, productivity, and competitiveness across every sector of our economy.
“Yes, we need to attend to the real concerns associated with AI, but our biggest opportunity lies in making sure Canadians capture the economic value. That starts with ownership. If Canadian companies don’t own and control the core AI assets — the IP, the data, the algorithms — we risk becoming buyers of other nations’ technologies rather than builders of our own future.
“The AI Task Force launched by Minister Evan Solomon is exactly the kind of collaborative process that CCI has long called for. It brings industry leaders and policymakers together to ensure Canada doesn’t just adopt AI — we lead in commercializing it, regulating it responsibly, and building world-class companies here at home.
“I look forward to working with my colleagues on the AI Task Force to help ensure Canada seizes this opportunity and builds an AI economy that delivers lasting benefits for Canadians.”
