CCI Statement on the Results of the Newfoundland and Labrador Election

October 15, 2025

After a long campaign, Newfoundland and Labrador’s Progressive Conservative Party, led by Premier-Designate Tony Wakeham, has secured a majority government. CCI President Benjamin Bergen and Senior Advisor for Atlantic Canada Karen Moores issued the following statements in response to the results:

“On behalf of the Council of Canadian Innovators (CCI) and our members, I’d like to congratulate Premier-Designate Tony Wakeham and the Progressive Conservative Party on their victory in this election.

"Ahead of the election, CCI released our What Innovators Need to Scale election primer, outlining the priorities of Canada’s high-growth technology firms in Newfoundland and Labrador. Those priorities remain clear: translate resource wealth into innovation, productivity, and long-term competitiveness.

"We stand ready to work with Premier Wakeham and his team to ensure that Newfoundland and Labrador seizes this moment in time and overcomes the challenges ahead with opportunities.”

-Benjamin Bergen, President of the Council of Canadian Innovators

“The province has already built a strong foundation in the innovation economy, with Canadian-owned scale-ups in offshore energy, ocean tech, cybersecurity, and defence. These companies are exporting technologies and building intellectual property right here at home.

"We urge Premier Wakeham’s government to build for generations ahead with policies that fuel prosperity for all. Working closely with local innovators, CCI has identified the policies that will allow Newfoundland and Labrador’s scaling companies to grow stronger, compete globally, and build lasting wealth in the province.

"As the PC government takes office, we look forward to working together on policies that strengthen Newfoundland and Labrador’s technology sector.”

- Karen Moores, CCI’s Senior Advisor for Atlantic Canada

About the Council of Canadian Innovators

The Council of Canadian Innovators is a national member-based organization reshaping how governments across Canada think about innovation policy, and supporting homegrown scale-ups to drive prosperity. Established in 2015, CCI represents and works with over 150 of Canada’s fastest-growing technology companies. Our members are the CEOs, founders, and top senior executives behind some of Canada’s most successful ‘scale-up’ companies. All our members are job and wealth creators, investors, philanthropists, and experts in their fields of health tech, cleantech, fintech, cybersecurity, AI and digital transformation. Companies in our portfolio are market leaders in their verticals, commercialize their technologies in over 190 countries, and generate between $10M-$750M in annual recurring revenue. We advocate on their behalf for government strategies that increase their access to skilled talent, strategic capital, and new customers, as well as expanded freedom to operate for their global pursuits of scale.
