CCI Statement on the Results of the Quebec Election
October 6, 2026
Following Quebec’s provincial election, Jean-François Harvey, Director of Quebec Affairs at the Council of Canadian Innovators (CCI), issued the following statement:
“Congratulations to Paul St-Pierre Plamondon and the Parti Québécois on their election victory. CCI and our members look forward to working with the incoming government to strengthen Quebec’s economy and help its homegrown technology companies succeed.
“Quebec’s research excellence and entrepreneurial talent are significant economic assets. The task ahead is to turn those strengths into more Quebec-headquartered companies that compete internationally, create well-paying jobs, and keep the value of their innovations here at home. As productivity pressures and public spending demands grow, helping these businesses scale must be a priority for the next government.
“Ahead of the election, CCI released What Quebec Innovators Need to Scale, drawing on the experience of technology CEOs and founders across the province. That agenda provides a practical starting point: help growing businesses attract and retain skilled workers, unlock private investment, and make government a more accessible customer for Quebec-made technologies. It also calls for policies that help companies commercialize artificial intelligence and retain ownership of the intellectual property they develop.
“Public purchasing is an immediate opportunity to put these priorities into practice. By looking beyond the lowest upfront price and considering the broader value of innovative solutions, Quebec can improve public services while helping local companies establish the track record they need to win customers internationally.
“Technology is now part of Quebec’s cultural infrastructure. Digital platforms shape how communities form, how people communicate, and which stories and ideas reach them. Quebec’s technology entrepreneurs are helping create the spaces where Québécois culture is expressed and shared. Keeping ownership of these companies, platforms, intellectual property, data, and digital infrastructure in Quebec hands is itself a matter of cultural sovereignty. Protecting Québécois culture and building Quebec-owned technology companies are shared ambitions, and we see a clear opportunity for government and innovators to advance them together.
“With the campaign over, attention must turn to delivery. We are ready to work with prime minister Plamondon and his team to translate these recommendations into concrete action and make Quebec a place where innovative companies can build, grow, and stay.”
