CCI Welcomes Sanctuary AI to our national team of innovators

March 28, 2024

The Council of Canadian Innovators is excited to announce Sanctuary AI as the newest member of our national network of scale-up technology companies.

Headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, Sanctuary AI is on a mission to create the world's first human-like intelligence in general purpose robots. The company is tackling two grand challenges — building human-like robots with its Phoenix™ design, and building human-like intelligence with its Carbon™ control system. Phoenix’s industry-leading dexterity and state-of-the-art robotic hands allowed it to successfully complete the first commercial deployment of a general purpose robot in partnership with Canadian Tire Corporation, one of Canada’s biggest retail corporations.

“Our goal is to be the first to create general intelligence in machines,” said Geordie Rose, CEO and Co-Founder of Sanctuary AI. “We’re creating and defining a whole new category of technology. CCI is leading the charge for collaboration among Canadian innovation leaders, and we’re excited to be a part of it.”

Rose has built a career launching market-defining innovations rooted in previously unsolved and deep scientific problems, working with global organizations like Google, NASA, Lockheed Martin, and Gap Inc. Rose was also a co-founder of D-Wave, the world’s first quantum computing company.

“Companies like Sanctuary AI are pioneering technology in the robotics and artificial intelligence industry globally. Geordie and his team are a proof-point for the cutting-edge work that Canadian innovators are doing,” said Benjamin Bergen, President of the Council of Canadian Innovators. “CCI exists to advocate for economic policies that support companies like Sanctuary AI, and allow them to achieve their full potential here in Canada. Their work has the potential to positively impact sectors in Canada and on a global scale.”

Since 2015, the Council of Canadian Innovators has been Canada’s business council exclusively devoted to high-growth Canadian-headquartered technology companies, working with government leaders to co-develop strategies to unleash our nation’s innovation potential.
