CCI Response to the 2026 Manitoba Budget
March 24, 2026
Today in Winnipeg, Finance Minister Adrien Sala delivered the 2026 Manitoba Budget.
In response to the budget, CCI’s Director of Prairie Affairs, Jess Sinclair, issued the following statement on behalf of our members:
“Manitoba’s latest budget, once again, signals ambition on innovation policy, though promises of further programming reviews and consultation of Manitobans mean details are somewhat limited.
“CCI and our members welcome the province’s commitment to capital investment in information technology, including $5.2 million in targeted spending. We also applaud the nod to reorienting government purchasing to prioritize domestic firms. We look forward to seeing the results of the province’s comprehensive procurement policy review, announced in 2025, along with a clear plan for sourcing more IT and public‑service technology from Canadian companies.
“The province has promised to move forward on AI and data policy, acting on recommendations from the Manitoba Innovation and Productivity Task Force stood up in May 2025. Advancing this work will be key in creating regulatory certainty for industry, building sovereign economic value by keeping more intangible assets in the province, and, critically, protecting Manitobans’ data privacy and security.
“We will continue to monitor and call for policies that add value to and build the provincial ecosystem and create opportunities and certainty for the domestic firms driving Manitoba’s prosperity in the 21st century.“
